Target Coatings Emtech 1000 Universal Sanding Sealer

Target Coatings Emtech 1000 Universal Sealer is an Optically Clear, Ultra Low VOC multi-function product. It offers great versatility as:

  1. Pre-Stain Conditioner
  2. Clear Sanding Sealer
  3. Color Delivery Vehicle
  • Ultra Low VOC, Zero HAPS
  • LEED Credit Code: EQ4.1, EQ4.2, EQ4.5
  • Sandable and re-coatable in less than 1 hour
  • Non-Yellowing
  • Water Clean-Up
  • Accepts Dyes or Pigments
  • Optically Clear formula allows easier visual reference for true wood color and while preparing custom colors with pigments or dyes.

As a Pre-Stain Conditioner, EM1000 can be diluted with water and applied to blotch prone woods to limit uneven absorption of pigment or dye stains.

As a Sanding Sealer, EM1000 provides a clear, quick drying base for follow-on application of any Target Coatings' topcoats.

As a Color Delivery Vehicle, EM1000 can be tinted with ColorFX Dyes, Mixol Pigments or other products to be used as a spray only (non-wipe) stain directly onto bare or pre-sealed wood. It can also be used as a tinted spray toner for special effects and shading prior to application of protective topcoats.

Big Fan

Review by Nicholas on 1/2/2023

The huge benefit to em-1000 as opposed to most sanding sealers is the clarity out of the can. It does not have the milky glue like consistency and colour of most other water based sealers which means that it is the absolute best choice when mixing with dye for toning. It gives the most accurate colour representation that I've found. Sands just as easily as any other sealer. As with all water based finishes on bare or just stained wood, absolutely make sure you raise and flatten the grain first to avoid "ruining your project". Product sprays and cleans well, dries quick and flat.

Not on oak or ash

Review by Darin on 2/18/2014

I used this product on stained oak and the results were horrible. It opened the grain to the point I thought my project was ruined, it was like running your hand over a mountain range after I used it. I also used it on cherry and was not impressed either. I would recommend either making your own shellac or using Seal Coat.
